In the 1970s, Apple Computer, Inc. was started, President Nixon resigned, and many couples wore matching outfits that would get them laughed at on the street today. People can only take so many belted tank tops and leopard-print onesies, and the 70s pushed this limit.
Even though some of the trends from the flares-dominated era are coming back (yes, I'm talking about the cool bell sleeves and denim dresses), many of them, to put it lightly, haven't aged so well. "It was the best of times, the worst of times, the age of wisdom, and the age of foolishness."
Fashion was as varied as ever and included a lot of different styles and genres. Many popular styles started in the 1970s, like disco, punk, glam rock, ethnic, hippie, military, and sporty-chick. One of the biggest trends that took over the streets was jumpsuits, which both stylish women and men wore. Matching styles were also popular for a while, but they went out of style, along with crocheted ponchos that looked like an old lady made them. Isn't it all for the best?
In the 1970s, makeup styles were as different from clothes. The looks ranged from natural, no-makeup bohemian to bright and flashy with the craziest colors. The disco scene was a feast of blue and green eyeshadow, bright coral blush, glossy lips, and glitter. On the other hand, the bohemian style liked earthy colors and natural looks, while the glam rock scene liked to be showy.
The hairstyles of the 1970s were as varied as the clothes and makeup of the time. They showed off all kinds of looks. Many women of the 1970s liked bangs and big, curly hair, but bohemian women liked a more natural look, and disco girls went out showing off their shaggy cuts. Hippies usually had their hair parted in the middle and wavy, while the glam rock scene liked big, weird cuts that were often colored in bright colors.
In the 1970s, celebrities also took over the fashion scene and changed the rules. Bianca Jagger is a former actress and activist for social and human rights. When she appeared on the Studio 54 scene, she became known as the most stylish person of the decade. She was the It girl of this exciting decade. She was the epitome of disco style and inspired many women to mix masculine and feminine fashion by wearing tuxedos and wide-leg pants with furs, silk kaftans, and sequins. The woman had it for sure!
