A photographer is recreating pictures of historical figures using their direct descendants as models.

Drew Gardner is a photographer who loves history very much. And I mean it when I say I'm passionate. Just look at his most recent project, The Descendants. The man did a lot of research to find and get in touch with the descendants of famous historical figures so he could take their portraits for a series of side-by-side pictures. Drew even ensured that the models wore clothes like those in the historical photos.

Drew told Bored Panda in a recent interview that he got the idea for the project when his mother told him about 15 years ago that he looked a lot like his grandfather. This made the man wonder if he really did look like his grandfather and if people today would still look like their ancestors.

Drew said that knowing and recognizing the person was one of the most important things to look for in a photo, no matter what the person had done. It wasn't always possible, but that was where the photographer started.
